Where we bade our wedding diets goodbye.
Starting in Lekeitio (a fishing village I pray, dear reader, you never find yourself in), we took a day trip west to Bilbao then drove back east to Mutriku, Deba, Getaria, and finally on to San Sebastian, where we overindulged in Michelin-starred restaurants on a daily basis.
I loved that wine was cheaper than water, that my appetite for Iberico ham could be met and satiated on a dime, that freshly made bread was different and delicious at every restaurant, that creamy gelato could be found at every turn we took, and that our palates were constantly delighted with each new place we dined at.
Here are some photo highlights from our honeymoon. Enjoy!
Basque Country was a wonderful place to start our honeymoon after months of intermittent fasting and hardcore workouts. If you ever plan on making a trip to Basque Country, remember these little nuggets of advice:
Don’t bother driving to Lekeitio unless you want to be deeply disappointed. Gelato at Adelia Ivanez in Bilbao is a must. Order the grilled fish at Kaia in Getaria. Martin Berasategui is the best 3 Michelin star restaurant in San Sebastian. House reds never disappoint. Cava is always a great idea, especially in the morning. Drink hot lemon water religiously to feel human after each indulgent meal. Bring your Nikes so that you can work off the calories. And don’t turn down dessert.
